Did You Know? I design my own covers!

I’ve designed every cover of my stories. I’ve also done some covers for other authors too! I’m always open to working with indie authors for covers. I know that indie authors don’t have much money like traditional publishers working on their books. I have some flexible pricing when it comes to cover creation, but let’s get into that later.

I have over twenty years of graphic and web design experience, which is what I’m doing right now as my day job. I love writing, but I love my day job working on graphics and websites as well! And well, creating book covers, photo-manipulations and banners is one of my favorite hobbies.

Here are some of the covers I’ve done.

And I’ve also worked with indie writer Rebecca Crunden. Her Outlands Pentalogy are some of my favorite covers.

If you need some help with book cover design, please send me a comment! I’d love to help.

Cheers,

HK Rowe

I’m not dead yet!

You would think this blog is dead, wouldn’t you? But it’s not. I assure you. Don’t believe me? Well, I can’t help that.

Writing status:

Mod Fury is on it’s very very very last edits. I promise!

I signed up for Camp NaNoWriMo for April to work on War Fury, the next story. I started it back in November and plan to finish it for camp. Honest!

I have plans to update/organize The Sinner and the Serpent. SOON.

I have not given up on Killer Orange. Edits are going on. Voices won’t shut up. More scenes and rewrites are imminent.

Book Cover status:

I worked on a book cover for a fellow indie author Rebecca Crunden for her book Haze. I will post links and pictures when the book is out. I’m rather proud of it honestly.

Cheers,

H.K. Rowe

Fight for Your Right to…

I know this is an author blog, but it must be boring waiting around for someone to write about “writing” or books and never really get anything. I’m beginning to think that this blog is not all about writing. It’s my blog, so my choice, I guess.

On that note, I work at an IT company and I have a big important meeting tomorrow with a great company in Chicago – on a project that could really boost my career and I’m really excited about it. Unfortunately I’ll be going there on the tail end of a sinus infection and pink eye thanks to my five-month old (don’t worry, I totally plan on bringing this up to her later when she’s older), but life is full of pitfalls. One thing I will not compromise on is my breast pumping. I damn well plan on breastfeeding my kid for a year (or until she weens herself) and I’m sticking with it, no matter where I have to go.

It’s been easy to go to work, pump 2-3 times in the spare office, and then do my work and not worry about being somewhere where I *can’t* do my motherly duty. I asked the Project Manager to make sure they talked to our client and ask where I can go to do my thing, and of course his response that they probably didn’t have some place. I try not to get discouraged about this, because I’ve pumped in bathrooms before — really bad, disgusting ones too, and I made it work.

When he called, they DO have a lactation room, and we got the contact number and person and I’m all set! I get excited when this happens. I ADMIRE companies that have designated rooms for mothers. Then, I kind of want to work there, because the room I have to use, I have to put on a sign to stop people from coming in because there is no lock, and as expected, no one reads signs and interrupts me anyway. Hey dudes, your problem not mine if you saw something you didn’t want to see.

I guess the lesson here is don’t get discouraged. Fight for your rights and take a stand on things that make others uncomfortable. You don’t have to settle for “No.” If I have to bring my cover and sit in the break room and pump with people coming and going, I WILL. I hope I won’t have to, but I will. Anything for my daughter.

She’s the reason I procrastinate on my writing projects.

Two short stories are coming soon. I gave myself a deadline for the end of April.  Yes, Mod Fury is one of them. I’ve teased that enough. The cover reveal is coming shortly too. I promise!

I’m going to attempt Camp NaNoWriMo again this April. It’s hit or miss to find time for myself with a baby, trust me. Sometimes I’d just rather cuddle.

Summer Blues: an update

My plans to release Mod Fury have been delayed once again. Most of it’s from my pregnancy. Please believe me when I say that I’m usually not in control of it. It makes me tired more than anything, and our summer has been busy. Free time is scarce, and just having a functioning brain sometimes is trying.

I did not anticipate this pregnancy to be so demanding of my free time, but it is. So juggling everything has been an art form. And not just pregnancy stuff too. House stuff, family stuff (I’ve had to deal with some terrible family news recently that has affected me emotionally) and work adds to all the stress and pressure.

At least the cover is done! Now onto finish up this draft. I DO intend to release it this late summer (hopefully), and at least work on the next three short stories in the series for NaNoWriMo.

But everything is a crap shoot now. My baby girl is due in late October and  her needs will definitely come first. Still, it would be nice if everything came together as I wanted!

Stay tuned.

Cheers,

H.K. Rowe, exhausted momma-to-be

Writing Status: Mod Fury

As some of you have guessed, my novel Killer Orange is currently on hiatus while I continue to go through edits (when there is time and motivation). I’d rather spend more time on it than give people a piece of crap story, of course!

In the meantime, I am beginning a short story series about the Greek Furies that I mentioned once before. I have been working on this, as well as the outlines for the other stories in the series.

I plan on releasing Mod Fury (The Avenging Sisters Series #0.5) either end of April or mid-May, which is soon. It depends on my health and available time. I just found a perfect cover image today and will be working on the design to post a teaser soon. Thanks to my editor, not many revisions are needed, so I’ll go through it again a few times and prep it for Amazon.

Unlike Unbridled, Mod Fury will not be a romance. There may be some, but it will be in the background. It is purely paranormal adventure and modern myth with kick-ass females.

Mod Fury will have a low e-book price and be KDP only in the beginning. I haven’t had much luck with other e-book sellers, so I’m sticking to Amazon for now. When the second book of the series comes out (hopefully by next early Winter), tentatively entitled War Fury, then Mod Fury will permanently be free. That’s the plan!

In the coming days I’ll post more about Mod Fury as updates arise.

Thanks!

H.K. Rowe

Cover Release Day!

Okay guys! It’s time to reveal the cover of my upcoming book, release next week slated for May 20th!

Unbridled cover!

Unbridled cover!

I’m very happy with it! I found just the right stock photo image and made some tweaks. This is the official cover of the book, which features my female protagonist Elekta. Elekta is a pinnacle part of the story, even though a majority of the POV rests with Ethan, the male anti-hero.

I hope you enjoy it! Now that the cover is revealed, the next step is only to release the book! The plan is the e-book version will come first, and then within due time, the print version will be available as well.

Just little background about myself, besides writing (of course), I’ve been a professional graphic designer for over 10 years. I’ve been drawing forever and I love technology so naturally I have evolved into the Illustration, Graphic Design, and now UI/UX design world. Design evolves and changes, so I love being able to share this part of myself with my writing as well.

I hope the book cover makes you excited as I am for this book’s release.

Until later!

H.K. Rowe
